The award for MBDA National Minority Manufacturer of the Year was announced at a Power Breakfast October 23, 2017 during the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) Annual Conference in The Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan where Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) recognized all of the National MED Week winners.  National Minority Manufacturer of the Year pays tribute to a minority-owned firm that has achieved significant success in employing new and innovative techniques that led to a significant increase in market share, job growth and customer satisfaction. MED Week and the NMSDC Conference provide an unique forum for Minority Business Enterprises to connect with successful business leaders, government officials and corporate executives.  In addition National Minority Enterprise Development (MED) week is October 22-28, 2017 when the Nation recognizes contributions of minority businesses to the U.S. Economy. The National MED Week Awards program is a longstanding tradition celebrating the outstanding achievements of minorities, entrepreneurs as well as individuals that have demonstrated a commitment to advancing minority business enterprises.

On Tuesday October 23, 2017 President Trump and Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross welcomed winners of the National Minority Enterprise Development Award to the White House. This award is given by the Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency to recipients who display outstanding entrepreneurial spirit. The President congratulated the attendees, saying “The work you do and the products and services you bring into this world generate new prosperity across America. For that, we are in your debt.” Later, he added, “The award-winning business leaders here today represent the best of America and our determination to succeed and to grow.

Vista Color achieved 27% revenue growth from 2013 and continues to grow at a steady pace to present. The company made dedicated upgrades in their technology. Vista Color purchased all new equipment. No machine at Vista Color is older than 5 years. Vista Color also implemented lean manufacturing processes and the re-design of work flow, from design to final output.   Vista Color streamlined their processes, starting from 14 touch points reducing it down to 6 touch points!
An investment was made purchasing and implementing Web Center production management tools – the results included bringing the prepress process up to speed with the team allowing for easier artwork approval and management for customers.
These investments allowed Vista Color to enable accelerated speed-to- market at more competitive prices. The results and achievements from these improved manufacturing processes include better prices for Vista Color’s Customers, improved product quality/reducing re-work and rejected packaging, and quicker turnaround time enabling contracts with compressed calendars and time-sensitive
production runs.
